Just to follow up on my due diligence, the printer works just fine under 
Winblows XP.  I was able to print test pages, etc.

Also, I ran nmap against the IP address where I know the printer lives. 
  It found nothing at all open.  Not sure what that means for my hopes 
of having cups talk to it.
