I'm in the process of building one now out of Fedora Core 1. Looks
like a great system, but configuring some of the hardware I have is a big
pain in the ass.

The XMLTV listings that we have, match the Comcast-Cable-Rebuild
lineup -- we've got basic-cable. You specify this at the zap2it account,
and it will go and download all of the channels and shows. It's really
neat if you get it on the first try, but makes you want to stop using it
when the channels don't line up properly.

The Voodoo 3500 TV card I have is junk. Prolly has a great cable
tuner, but there's not too many resources to get this wacky thing to work.
I can't imagine the QA department allowed this thing to go out the door.

I have an ATI bttv card, but it's reception is pretty bad. I've
been fighting with that for a day, and was able to get it to display
channels, but very crappily. (I seem to remember the goodwill in the
SoSide once had a whole basket full of PCI cable tuners, but they were all
gone when last I was there)

Also of note, is that the shell of the coax from Comcast will give
a small arc when I touch it to the metal PC case. I haven't measured the
difference with my handy VOM yet. I noticed this while leaning on the PC
to plug it in.

MythTV is a really cool product, is very pretty, and seems to have
slightly more features than I thought were available. I'll have to try the
KnoppMyth, but I'd rather free the CD player for SVCDs and audio.
