Was mail.domainname.com your X-isp?
Can you still connect to mail.domainname.com? (probably)

You should be able to use your old email server if it still exists. But, you shouldn't "forward" through your new isp to get there.
Make your outgoing mail server mail.domainname.com and use the username/password for it.
