The regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Western Pennsylvania Linux Users Group was held on Thursday, March 3, 2011, at 6:15 PM, at Crazy Mocha in Squirrel Hill, the Vice-Chair presiding in the absence of the Chair and the Secretary being present. The minutes of the February 1, 2011 meeting were approved as previously distributed.

The Vice-Chair reported that the announcement for the March 7 site visit has been posted to wplug-announce. He also reported that he would distribute a final list of those volunteering to serve on committees by e-mail to the Board.

The Secretary reported that there are currently 26 members.

The Treasurer reported that the balance in the checking account was $660.42. The refreshment fund contains $85.12 in cash. The post office box has been renewed for a year, costing $72.00.

The Director-at-Large reported that he is finishing up his survey of local educational institutions and will produce a final list of Linux usage soon.

The Internet Committee reported that the concerns@wplug.org e-mail alias has been established, directed to the Investigating Committee.

The Program Committee reported that the libraries have been reserved for the Installfests to take place in March, June, and December. It was noted that no speaker or topic has been booked for the April General User Meeting.

The Public Relations Committee reported that it wants input on drafting a request to the Pittsburgh Technology Council for their assistance in surveying Linux usage among their corporate members. It also reported that we should have a goal of distributing meeting announcements at least two weeks prior to the event. In addition, the committee reported that there is a Facebook page relating to open source in Western Pennsylvania, and that it would contact the administrators of that page to see if WPLUG events could be posted there.

Terry Golightly stated that he would like to see the appearance and structure of the WPLUG web site improved. He volunteered to investigate sites used by other LUGs and similar organizations and provide a list of links to them.

The meeting adjourned at 7:01 PM.
