[wplug] Freenode

What yet ANOTHER chat app to check. it seams every one wants a different chat app. No thanks, I would skip out on that. IRC, Discord, Slack, now Matrix and all the other ones people want to start to try to monetize. IRC is nice as a standard and not some new random incompatible protocol from some one wanting to reinvent the wheel. And think about this, the more apps you have running that will burn more battery power then the so called "batter inefficient" IRC and maybe the issue is not IRC but the client you are using.

In my experience IRC is a huge battery drain on mobile, so personally I only use it occasionally when I want to talk about something specific. Matrix is a lot more suited to an asynchronous, less-active discussion IMO.
