If I were at a full computer I would double check this before posting. I
think some of the 3ware cards I use are PCI-X. I want to say they are in the
9000-series. I think there are a few variations that are different voltages
and are keyed differently in the socket. Double check which ones your
motherboard supports before buying.
I know that they have vendor provided drivers in the stock linux kernel. I'm
less sure about the windows side. I think you'll have better luck with
64-bit 7 over 64-bit XP. When I tried 64-bit XP it seemed like no one knew
it existed, so nothing supports it. My coworker has a similar card to the
one I have that he uses in windows. The only problems I remember him talking
about had to do with a sata port multiplier he also had in the system.
They are hardware raid cards, so they'll be more expensive. I think they
have a pass through mode, but I'm not sure. You might need to do reinstalls
to use the card.

Hello Folks,
I have a legacy HP workstation on which I am running Ubuntu 9.1 64 bit
(I plan to upgrade to 10 soon). Anyway, I now need to dual boot the
machine to WinXP 64 bit. Unfortunately, Windows 64-bit drivers do not
exist for the on-board SATA controller.
I am searching for an add-on SATA controller (RAID optional) which is
supported on both Linux and Windows XP/7 64-bit. To complicate the
matter, I would like to use the available PCI-X 133 slot. This is
_not_ PCI-Express, but rather a legacy bus no longer implemented.
There are several legacy SATA controllers out there for the PCI-X bus,
but I have doubts about availability of drivers.
The workstation also has an available PCI-Express x8 prime slot, which
may be my only option.
Does anyone have an recommendations for a suitable SATA controller in
the $150 - $300 range?
Thanks,
Dave
