[wplug] Question for Storage Hardware Experts

Hello Folks,

I have a legacy HP workstation on which I am running Ubuntu 9.1 64 bit
(I plan to upgrade to 10 soon). Anyway, I now need to dual boot the
machine to WinXP 64 bit. Unfortunately, Windows 64-bit drivers do not
exist for the on-board SATA controller.

I am searching for an add-on SATA controller (RAID optional) which is
supported on both Linux and Windows XP/7 64-bit. To complicate the
matter, I would like to use the available PCI-X 133 slot. This is
_not_ PCI-Express, but rather a legacy bus no longer implemented.

There are several legacy SATA controllers out there for the PCI-X bus,
but I have doubts about availability of drivers.

The workstation also has an available PCI-Express x8 prime slot, which
may be my only option.

Does anyone have an recommendations for a suitable SATA controller in
the $150 - $300 range?

Thanks,
Dave
