Check grub.conf or lilo.conf. Those guys like to pass flags to the
kernel at boot time.
[bseklecki at as00 ~]$ sudo grep -i label /etc/grub.conf
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-128.1.10.el5 ro root=LABEL=/ <- assholes
