Right:
    $ dpkg --compare-versions 3:3.3.8really3.3.7 le 3:3.3.8b-5
    $ echo $?
    1

The "really3.3.7" is treated as greater than the "b-5".
I don't see kmuddy in the archive, but I'd complain to its maintainer
about the dependency, and in the meantime, use
    dpkg --force-depends -i ...
