[wplug] Linux.COM on LyX 1.5 -- WAS: Book published using Open Source software

Linux.COM had a brief feature on LyX 1.5 (being that the LyX website
is still using 5+ year-old screenshots).

If you write _structured_ technical documentation, I cannot stress
enough that you should take a serious look at a LyX. LaTeX has a 20+
year foundation in structured, technical writing, and LyX leverages
it. Even if you will eventually hand-off the document for editing in
OpenWriter/StarWriter, starting off in LyX can save you a lot of
effort. The ability to quickly navigate around sections is a Godsend
(among other TeX goodies like Contents, Biblio, etc...).
OpenWriter/StarWriter import/export from/to LyX-LaTeX.

And if you do equations, it's a no-brainer. You won't want to use
anything else but LyX and its directly, in-line equation editing (and
not an "external equation editor" like virtually _all_ word
processors force you to use).

P.S. LyX can seem "frustrating" at first. E.g., you can't just
inserted a "new line." That's by design. Once you realize you're
using doing "layout" and not "word processing," you'll quickly
realize -- "oh, yeah, it utterly enforces consistency," which is what
"real" publication is all about. ;)
