[wplug] Backing up alien data from Linux CD.

I've been tasked to recover data from a legacy Interactive unix system.
The unit has a USB port and a CD/r drive, so I thot I'd boot the unit from
a Knoppix 4.0 CD, mount a thumbdrive on /dev/sda1, and cpio the data to the
thumb drive thru the Knoppix shell, to get the transferrable media that I
needed.

Curiously, Knoppix mounts /dev/sda1 as read-only (fstab umask=000) - and
I've never run across the situation where I couldn't fix the fstab before
the boot, to ensure writability;.

Any suggestions as to the simplest technique to make the thumb drive
writable under the CD-booted Knoppix will be appreciated.

Thanx.
