If you're a desktop linux user, go take a look at:
http://www.gnome.org/~seth/blog//xshots
It's a weblog entry by Seth Nickell, who works for RedHat on the Fedora
project. On it you'll find a bunch of videos showing off what can be
done with the Open GL window/compositing manager (written by Owen Taylor
from the GTK project).
Particularly interesting are that this will allow a lot of the MacOSX
scaling and shearing effects on the linux desktop.
Also, he's got some screenshots showing the extensions made to GTK to
allow it use the Cairo project as backend. In non-geek speak, this
means that your regular graphics can be drawn using an accelerated
vector engine rather than a pixel based engine. Thus, as screen sizes
and resolutions increase, we get increased fidelity, instead of just
tiny little graphics. Very useful indeed.
