Did the trick for me..  It was actually set to GNOME even though I
don't have gnome installed..

Don,
.xsession-errors and .Xresources didn't exist before nor after running
switchdesk on a freshly installed machine.. Although after running
switchdesk another file showed up (don't recall the name) that
contained the setting for which session the user picked when they ran
switchdesk..

With desktop=gnome without gnome being installed, it seems to ignore
the users prefrence..  With it set to KDE, the users prefrence
sticks..

Sounds like a bug to me..
