[wplug] Shared printing

I found that getting XP Pro to print to cups using the internet printing
protocol support built-in to XP was a heck of a lot easier and more
reliable than samba. Maybe mine was a unique case, but using samba, XP
kept complaining about the printer not being ready. Using the IPP
support in cups (and no samba) printing from XP to the linux box worked
and worked reliably. Plus, unless you need the file sharing
capabilities as well, why run another layer of software on top of the
print spooler (lpr/cups/etc)?

Then in the printer properties on the XP box go to the ports tab, check 'standard TCP port', click on 'Configure Port' and then enter the hostname of the linux box, check LPR and enter the printer name as defined in Cups in the Queue Name. This at least works for me with FreeBSD and lpd, I can't see why it wouldn't work with Cups as it's using the lpr protocol.
