Hmm,

I would definetly say that the X protocol is not very bandwidth happy, you'd
be better off using something like telnet/ssh simply cause it doesn't have
to send as many updates.

If you want to see how busy the X protocol is fire up tcpdump on port 6000
and watch the traffic fly..

Subject: [wplug] Cisco VPN problems

Anyone have any idea why opening any app like an xterm on my desktop would
take a long time when connected to my work VPN?

I get the same results whether I have the firewall on or off.
I am not having this problem with my mac only my linux box

I am running RH 9, kernel 2.4.20-9 and vpnclient 3.7.3A
tcpdump -i lo shows no activity until the xterm pops up.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Jt Chiodi
