Yes it does.

What really never ends is the usefullness of the knowledge you acquire, 
the reliability, stability and security of the machines you apply that 
knowledge to, and your advantage against the people who choose to 
ignore that domain of skills.

Realize, that whenever you spend time configuring your GNU/Linux system, 
you're investing in skills that have been there for many years, and in 
all likelihood (under the protection of the GPL) will be there for many 
years to come. Poor Windows NT certified engineers can tell you sad 
stories about their skillset and how much *that* is appreciated 
nowadays... GNU/Linux doesn't eat it's young, unlikewise our friends

So, no worries! Spending time on GNU/Linux is an investment! :-)
