I think this is probably the best advice yet.  Particularly this part:

 >  boot with " linux noprobe noauto nopcmcia ide=nodma nousb nomce"

If you have troubles, bring it to an Installfest, I'm sure I could give 
a hand, I see a lot of linux laptop installs, and each one has it's own 
little catch which makes it difficult.
