[wplug] Apt-get and RH 9

I am trying to try out apt-get on RH 9.  I have installed the latest rpm and added the servers I want to talk to in the config file.  I run apt-get update and it downloads the list of packages.  It starts reading the package list and stops either on 0% of 66%.  I do an strace and nothing is going on.  I am forrced to kill it with a -9.  I have let it run for hours.  I have removed everything from the cache directories with the same results.  Anyone have any ideas?
