Good commentary, but I just noticed one thing missing from this whole 
discussion.  If you want java support in konqueror, go to your konqueror 
config and select the "Java" tab under "Konqueror Browser" and in the "Path 
to java executable, or 'java'" field, the proper entry, at least on my Red 
Hat box, is "/usr/java/j2re1.4.1/bin/java".  Just leaving it as "java" 
doesn't work (presumably because the rpm installed it outside of my $PATH)
