These folks resell laptops from Sony, IBM, etc. that are preconfigured
with linux.

I've talked to them and they've said that no top-tier laptop
manufacturer sells the bare hardware.  So even emperorlinux laptops have
the Microsoft tax built in, because there's currently no other way.
