[wplug] /dev/ttyS0 busy

You could try the following:
$ /sbin/fuser /dev/ttyS0

fuser shows the PIDs for processes using a file (in 
this case, a device). I've used it in the past when 
errant processes would tend to mess with my audio.

If need be, you can SIGKILL the processes with the 
-k option.
$ fuser -k /dev/ttyS0
