Title: Intro to Copyright

Free Software licenses rely on copyright law to function. But what is copyright? How does one obtain it, and what rights does it give you? Perhaps more importantly, what can't you do with material copyrighted by others?

I'll review the basics of what copyright is and how it applies to creative works (including software). Also included will be discussion of the most common Free Software licenses, how they operate, and how they get along (or not) with each other. Some time will be spent on Creative Commons licensing as well, which are used for many types of works.
