the Ubuntu, network install CD. I installed in on the Debian PC and now
have the same GRUB lockup that I have on the other PC. (GRUB

to switch to Ubuntu but after I install Ubuntu 9.10 from a Ubuntu supplied disk,
I get GRUB displayed and the load hangs up. The hardware is old (P3)
but is known to be good. Fedora loads with no

of the same type I have Debian loaded and it has been running fine for
several months. Weekly I check and install all updates
offered. After power cycling the PC, I find GRUB now offering six kernel
options; 2.6.30.5.old, 2.6.30.5, and 2.6.26-2-686, each with a single user
version. When I try to boot any of the 2.6.30.5 kernels, I
