Personally I hate getting large emails (bigger then 1 or 2 mb). It just wasn't designed for file transfer.
But my bigger pet peeve is not receiving a 5mb database, but a 5mb jpg or somebodies kid because they
don't know how to resize.

I often find myself using the dos ftp client in windows on customers computers to transfer large files on the fly.

But that goes back to needing an ftp account somewhere.
Perfect use for a hacked NSLU2 at home. :)
