Yeah, there's nothing you need to do on the computer aside from setting it to obtain an
IP address automatically (DHCP).

Exactally, adding another PC is as simple is plugging in the network cord.

Don't sweat the filters, worst case everything will still work without them, you'll just
hear a hissing on the phone as long as the modem is linked up. You can hook them up
anytime, it won't hurt.

There's still a good few independants like us around, many times we're far more advanced then the
big guys because we're small and can focus on the customers more so. We don't really get any
competition from them, but our biggest concern is Comcast, Time Warner, etc. Those big cable
companies can sell their unregulated (so they don't have to gaurentee any service) phone service for
such a low rate, it's hard to compete.

They just took over Adelphia out here, so it's going to be scary once they start building. I think
our customer service alone will be enough to save us. As for DSL, it's nothing like Comcast advertises.

With some of the newer technologies, I can push upwards of 30megs across a DSL line. :)

Never made it to a WPLUG meeting, I've been meaning to come to an installfest with my laptop for
years, just never got around to it.

I'll try to get that modem out to you by the weekend, I'll let ya know when I do.

-Mike

On Feb 7, 2008 4:08 PM, Neal Sofge <neal_sofge@rand.org> wrote:
whatever you need to via a single configuration interface in your
cheap router.

--
Neal Sofge, Web Technology Analyst
RAND Corporation <http://www.rand.org/>
