I know you're no longer interested in being on the list, but if you do
want to experiment with Linux, I suggest picking up Parallels for Mac,
and running a virtual system running linux on your mac. I've been
using it to test linux distributions and it is quite slick. Plus, you
can run Windows in a virtual machine if you have to get your Redmond
fix.

I can say Ditto to the Parallels. It is great to carry around all
these OSs on one little laptop. I am using a MacBook Pro and I
installed Parallels Version 2 and setup several virtual machines
(including the one for my Redmond fix). I recently upgraded to Version
3.0. It has some neat features like running DOS applications in
separate Windows that appear to be running in OS X, but I have a couple
problems with it: <br>

<li>I can no longer get to the Internet from my XP virtual machine.
(I suppose something got reconfigured and I need to figure that out). <br>

<li>The Parallels Tools install OK, but everytime I restart the XP
machine, I get prompted to reinstall the tools. I am not sure if the
Tools actual work - I am not real familiar with what they do. <br>
</li>
<li>I have MS Office installed on both XP and on OS X. When I am
running OS X and double click a .doc file, it launches Parallels and
opens the file in the XP Version of Windows. This is a waste of
resources and slows down everything. I figured out how to set the
preferences back to OS X Word using Finder and Get Info, but Parallels
has already reset the preference once. <br>
