It is Turing complete so you can run any program. It is very good for
creating robotics projects when used with a arduino compatible
microcontroller. It is the right price for a expendable server for a
Local Area network. I administrate the Pi's at Hack Pittsburgh that
function as the print server and internal file server. They work as
media players because they have software optimized for them, but you are
better off with a Pi 2 because it has more cores and memory. It has a
more diverse set of ports than most mini-notebooks. It has 4 usb 2.0
ports, a fast Ethernet port, 40 GPIO pins, a HDMI port, a micro usb port
for power, and a micro sd slot for the operating system, which is most
commonly Raspbian which is a Pi optimized Debian.
