[wplug] Emacs and Auctex "template" insert?

I've started using emacs a bit more, and I'd like to start using it for writing LaTeX documents.

Everything is installed and seems functional (Auctex installed using elpa, LaTeX installed using Scott Kostyshak's perl script "Install-tl-Ubuntu" Installer). Basic documents are compiling normally and the install seems fine.

Does anyone know how I create those "keyword templates" that I see people using? For example, If I find (create) a new .tex file and type "homework [TAB]", I'd like my "homework template" to auto-populate the buffer and allow me to tab between fill-in fields. There are a bunch of YouTube videos demonstrating this functionality, but nobody is explaining their setup. Are these basically yasnippets that people have created, or is there some AUCTex functionality that does it??

Thanks!
