I am designing a screen cast display system for Hack Pittsburgh as an
alternative to plugging in the projector in the corner of the shop.

I would need a raspberry pi or a pcduino with a network
capable media player on it like vlc or (s)mplayer, and I would need a
monitor or a projector.

Basically the setup would be that someone doing
a presentation can setup a screen cast in the LAN of the shop with
ffmpeg, avconv, vlc, (s)mplayer or a similar program and then from the
pi connect to the screencast in full screen mode while connected to a
monitor or projector. This setup potentially allows both audio and video
giving it an advantage over the vga cable.

It is probably possible to make a service listen on a port and relay a
stream directed at the port into the video player.

Here are some resources I am using to get started.
