Which version of grub are you experimenting with? 2 is different in how it's setup and UEFI booting may be needed for your bios.
I'm trying to setup gentoo using the LVDVD it's a bit challenging. Need to figure it out anyways so I'm busily working on that.

I have been experimenting with GRUB to make multi booting USBs. I can
get multiple OSs to boot, but they don't necessary boot correctly
because the initrd.gz on the images DVD isn't right for GRUB multiboot,
and miscellaneous other initrd.gz files, they modify how the installer
works.

Does anyone know how to make this work already?
