[wplug] From Mac to Linux

I may be in a position in the near future to recommend Linux to a group of Mac users.
The people in question are multimedia users who would appreciate a good selection of
editing software. Since I'm relatively inexperienced with OS X, I'd like to know which
distributions the rest of you might recommend.
The only distro I can think of is Ubuntu because Unity takes such obvious design cues
from OS X - and since it's based on Debian, the software selection is obviously there.
I'd hate to move people from one walled garden to the other, though. While Canonical
isn't as restrictive as Apple, its strategy for the future seems to revolve around in-
house software that sets Ubuntu at odds with the Linux community.
But the fit seems to be there. Unity tries to imitate OS X, and it's pretty obvious that
Canonical is the "Apple" of the Linux world.
Is there anything else I'm missing? I'd normally look to OpenSUSE for this sort of thing,
but every computer I've installed the latest release on has experienced bizarre
problems. Besides, KDE's default interface is much closer to Windows than Mac.
