[wplug] Best programming language for beginner?

Your story sounds very familiar. I have always been a quick learner with
hardware, networking, scripting, servers and operating systems.
Programming for some reason has always eluded me. I think the lack of a
meaty project to sink my teeth into was the real piece holding me back.

I tried perl, ruby, python and java. They are all fun, but without a
project to work on, I found it hard to progress.

Two things that have sparked my interest again recently are code academy
www.codecademy.com. And Google Script.

With code academy, I really was able pick up new techniques by following
the very structured introductory courses.

With Google script I find it really cool to start writing useful code that
will live and run on the Web natively. For learning, they really
sparked my interest in coding and I find myself looking at the OReilly
bookshelf once again.

Good luck!

Brian
I consider myself very knowledgeable about many aspects of using a
computer, but programming, sadly, is not one of them. I took Java in
college, but I wasn't very good at it.

I seem to keep running into situations where I wish I could code, either to
edit existing programs or create something new. I'd really, really like to
give programming another try. What would you recommend for a beginner who
wants to learn something simple - simpler than Java, I mean - yet usable?
Search results seem to suggest either Python or Ruby.
