Good evening, everyone. I've posted the minutes for last Saturday's GUM
and board meeting:

*Board Meeting*: http://www.wplug.org/wiki/WPLUGBoard/Meeting-20130209

If you weren't able to come, you sure missed out! Pat gave an excellent
demonstration of a program called XCA that would have saved me a /lot/
of time in setting up my home server. I gave an abbreviated account of
the rise and fall of the webOS operating system, which was created in
2009 and essentially "died" in 2012 after the HP TouchPad's botched
launch. Did you know that many of Android's UI improvements, like the
recent tasks button, were taken from webOS? That's because Google's top
UI designer, Matias Duarte, was part of the original webOS team. Google
snagged him in 2010, and Matias has been implementing his ideas in
Android ever since.

But the true main event, even though we didn't have time to finish it,
was the license debate panel. Terry was randomly selected to defend the
Apache License, and Pat was randomly selected to defend the LGPL. It's
easy to prepare for a simple discussion, but what if you don't know
which side you'll be defending? It was funny watching everyone
improvise. We've still got four licenses left to defend, so we'll
continue this at a future event.

If you'd like to learn more about software licenses, I produced a
handout that gives a plain English, one-page summary for each of the six
in our debate panel (MIT, Apache, Mozilla Public, Microsoft Reciprocal,
LGPL, GPL). It also includes an "inheritance chart" that shows how the
licenses get progressively more complex. If you'd like a copy, here's
the link:

And finally, we voted to send two bylaws changes to the members for
final approval via absentee ballot. I'll send yinz all a copy of the
ballot as soon as I get a chance.

Later! May the source be with you.
