Sat June 23 - is our tech "dry run" day for installing about 200 Linux computers. We'll be setting up 6 workstations with PXE boot servers running a reliable build of Edubuntu 10.04.3.

Workstations are 12ft tables with 6 computer stations. We'll have non-tech runners bringing the blank 40GB IDE hard drives and 256 RAM chips to the techs as needed.

We'll match each CPU to a 15" or 17" LCD monitor. And enter all the data into an online database.

We have chose Lucid Linux 10.04.x for it's solid LTS. Many thanks to Dave Nolder, Johnny Qwalick and Max Gelman for making the image better and better each revision.

The PXE servers are actually IBM ThinkPads with GigE NICs and 2GB RAM ... so they make for pretty quick data transfer rates .... usually 7-10 minutes per image of the 16GB ISO.

So if all goes well ... we should be able to image about 200 CPU's and have them boxed for Africa.

The big day ... Sat June 30 - based on our June 23 testing, we'll have 6 workstations with techs and have non-techs do all the running.

If anyone has any specific questions feel free to contact me.
