[wplug] Bunch of Floppy Drive questions.

I needed to install an internal floppy on FC14, 15, Ubuntu 10.04 and 11.04 PCs.

On the Fedora PCs I found that the device drivers have to be manually installed (modprobe floppy). This allows manual mounting of the floppy by root. I put this command in rc.local and it now loads on boot.

However I cannot get it to auto-mount or have it mountable by user. I changed fstab but that made it impossible to mount even by root.
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto (also tried msdos) rw,noauto,user 0 0

I also tried just rw,user

The system would accept a mount command, tell me that it was mounted, but it wasn't.

So some questions. How do I get back to the way floppy drives mounted a few years ago? Put the disk in and the system would mount it. Seems as if the OS has regressed about 10 years.

Why do mount points in /media (/media/floppy) get removed when I reboot?

Is fstab processed before rc.local?

I haven't worked on the Ubuntu PC's yet but have seen that their fstab includes a floppy but they do not work. The device driver appears to be loaded but the floppy will not mount.
