[wplug] Unbuntu + Floppy?

I need to set up a PC for embedded Linux development.  I have been using Fedora for years with very few problems.  People have been telling me how great Ubuntu is so I thought I would give it a try on the new setup.  Last week or so I posted requests for help concerning the display.  Fixed that by getting a newer PC.

Now I find that I cannot mount a floppy drive (yes I know.... But I still need one).  I see that fstab is correct and have tried to manually mount the drive.  I get no error messages, the front light blinks and that's it.  Umount tells me that it is not mounted.  Tried replacing the hardware.  Tried 11.04 and 10.04 with the same results.  I cannot even add a drive to the top menu bar.

However if I boot from the 10.04 CD the floppy mounts.   Anyone else have floppy drive problems with Ubuntu?
