Just wanted to make a comment on this, not sure if will meet the OP's
needs or not. At work we use Parallels Desktop to run Window on our
Macs. Parallels allows you to "import" a live windows install into
the VM. You install an agent on the windows box, then when creating
the VM you tell it to search for the agent and will pull an exact copy
of your windows install into the VM. The only issue that I see in
relation to the OPs question, is that the Windows install has to be on
a separate box.

I haven't looked to see if Parallels run on linux though, but thought
I would throw that out. If Parallels has this feature, don't see why
VMWare wouldn't.
