If your use case is relaying all outgoing mail through a pre-
selected SMTP server (e.g., gmail), then msmtp will do the job
without having to install a full MTA
<http://msmtp.sourceforge.net/>.  There are a number of howtos out
there which give an introduction to setting it up.

Note that it does NOT handle queueing, so you will have to manage
delivery errors yourself (either hanging on to the message and
trying again later, or just dropping it on the floor).
