My wife also really also really like her Sansa e-series. I put my music
on my phone that runs (gasp) Windows Mobile 6.1, but I also have a
little Creative Zen V Plus. You can grab a 2GB one of those for as
little as $50. I also use Amazon's MP3 download service on 64-bit Ubuntu
without problem. As mentioned upthread, you have to do a little hand
work to get it to install and run on 64-bit, but of the different
packages I've done in that fashion, it was the least painful. Someone
running on a 32-bit installation will have no problems. Amazon also
frequently offers neat specials, like "100 greatest classical songs for
$10" and occasional free or $2.99 album downloads.
