Checkout BackupPC: http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/

It's low on resources, fairly easy to setup (unlike Bacula, which can
be a pain), and "just works" once everything is configured.

Another option if you're going to stick with ZFS/Solaris is to create
an iSCSI SAN with tape backups and mount the shared disks where extra
storage needed.
