Unfortunately, "modprobe atl1" doesn't change the output of ifconfig -a; no 
wired NIC (other than the external USB NIC) shows up.

Unfortunately, atl1e is not found...

What's worse, in a previous install attempt when I upgraded to 8.10, I not 
only didn't have the wired NIC driver, but also lost the wireless one.

BTW, FreeBSD 7.1 did not detect neither the wired or wireless NICs either.

I'd just hate to put Windows on this computer...
