Description:
We are looking for a contract programmer to join our ongoing efforts to build and extend a set of open source tools for communication and collaboration. These tools constitute a product we refer to as the Virtual Collaboratory and were developed for use by mental health scientists in the US and abroad for their collaborative programs in research and training. The Virtual Collaboratory currently consists of a virtual meeting component, a listserv, a wiki, a resource center, and a member profile directory that is part of a more general collaboration matching service.
The contract programmer will be involved in maintaining, improving and extending the system from its original implementation to one that can encompass mobile technologies, greater configurability, and offer more optional open source components. Additionally, this person will work closely with the business and program management team, currently consisting of two Program Analysts, one Program Officer and the company owner, to support programmatic use of the collaboratories with key customers.
Applicant must have expert knowledge of Plone and Zope 3 development and delivery technologies; MySQL database management; have some knowledge of Unix/Linux web server systems management; and have the temperament for rapid, incremental development (prototyping). Good communication skills with non-technical customers and users are critical, experience developing for or supporting scientists is a significant plus. Additional experience with Listen internals, a Plone-based mailing list system, is a definite plus. Knowledge of browser compatibility issues would be useful. An interest in open source development is also a plus.
Applicant will be a part-time contractor paid on an hourly basis. The company office is in Bethesda, Maryland, but the successful applicant can work via telecommuting. If you are interested, please contact rknapp at perpich.com
