Heh - no kidding.

"Core 2" is the second iteration of their newest processor technology (the 
"Intel Core microarchitecture,) including 64-bit extensions.  Solo, Duo, and 
Quad refer to the number of cores on the processor.

The most confusing part now comes with their "Extreme" processor line 
(usually their newest and fastest tech) - because those can be dual-core or 
quad-core.

In any case, Wikipedia (at least as of this morning) has a pretty good 
breakdown of the Intel Core branded processors:
