The Western Pennsylvania Linux Users Group is holding a special
showing of two short films plus a presentation on the Blender
open-source 3-D animation software on Saturday, July 26, 2008.
This event will be held at the Creative TreeHouse in Bellvue.
The schedule is:
5:00 PM - Doors open
5:20 PM - Screening of Elephants Dream
5:35 PM - Screening of Big Buck Bunny
5:45 PM - Presentation on Blender
6:30 PM - Q&A, Discussion, and Socializing
7:00 PM - All done!
Elephants Dream and Big Buck Bunny are two short films created with
the support of the Blender Foundation. They are "open source" in
both the sense that they were created using open-source software
and because the finished films and production files are available
under a Creative Commons license.
Presentation Topic: "Blender and Producing Open Source Movies"
Speaker: Roland Hess
Roland Hess is a member of the Blender <http://www.blender.org/>
development team, worked on Elephants Dream, and has written the
books "The Essential Blender" and the forthcoming "Animating with
Blender." He'll briefly cover Blender's history and development
and then move on to how it's used. Roland will give an
introduction to the interface and production workflow and go into
some of the cool lighting and character animation features, plus
new stuff that is soon to be added.
