Ok so I still use my static IP either way, just if I go with router
then I use NAT and map private addresses assigned by DHCP to the
publicly visible static IP they give me (is that what world/publicly
routable means?).

The guy at Nidhog said the modem will need to be configured to use
PPPoE, I guess they use that at their end so I'll have to configure
it. I don't hear any hissing on the telephone line so I guess the DSL
hasn't been installed outside yet? With this bad weather it may be
delayed :-( And someone said if a Verizon tech does it they are
notorious for coming days late anyways sigh. I am waiting for my modem
to arrive in the mail.
