run it in the foreground with:
$ sudo -H smbd -F -D10 2>&1 | tee -a
/var/log/samba_oh_god_help_me_I_want_to_die.log
You should be able to glean something useful out of the debug log....
maybe .. hopefully ... possibly ... possibly not, but at that point, you
have to ask:
Is there a difference?
