They could also be coming from somewhere besides your profile; for
example, I'm currently logged in via ssh and sshd has set the
variables SSH_CLIENT, SSH_CONNECTION, and SSH_TTY.  Try taking a
look at any programs that are involved with the way you're logging
in.
