[wplug] Pitt housing hates Linux (or how I stopped loathing and learned to love the new Darragh Street building)

I just moved into the new building built on Darragh Street for Pitt
medical/graduate students.  The network configuration Pitt uses for
its wired connections is 802.1X (yeah, apparently it's not just for
wireless).  The Pitt IT guy was clueless as to how to connect my
Ubuntu box to the network.  Does anyone have an idea as to how to do
this?
