I think it's the exact opposite, we've pissed away our competitive edge.
We've misplaced our ever-shrinking engineering knowledge-base.
All while not hiring qualified technicians, and then running to the government
asking for indentured servants at half the market rate who can't leave
their sponsor or they will be deported.

We're already toasty.

What I wonder is, how is this widespread condition allowed to  
continue?  You'd think there would be some loss of competitive  
ability amongst companies with screwed up HR departments.  Is it just  
that many sectors of our economy are operating on sheer momentum?
