[wplug] Best mid-life career advice

In reality, you don't need to go back to school for a technical degree.
Virtually anything and everything you need you can learn on-the-job.
You sound like you have the experience, or at least the exposure.
So I'd build upon that.

BTW, not that I promote certifications, but earning the Linux
Professional Institute (LPI) Certified Level 1 (LPIC-1) is a good start,
for your resume. You can pass it with self study, and most technical
programs are just going to prepare you for a credential like that
anyway.

I am a Linux enthusiast and I have an decent aptitude for technology in
general. I have worked for ISPs and web development companies in a sales
and promotions capacity, and I am extremely good at sales. I am a very
young and forward thinking 48 year-old considering a career change.

My question is this; is it madness to go back to school to become a
"nix" administrator, or would it be wiser to take some less rigorous
overview courses to become a qualified "sales advisor."

My past experience has taught me that there is a huge gap between the
technically endowed administrators and the technically impaired decision
makers.

Your thoughtful suggestions would be appreciated.
